Death Valley National Park

I am still evaluating and processing images from my recent trip to Death Valley National Park in February.  Not all images have the drama and appeal in color, as they have in monotone.  I photograph many landscapes with monotone in mind at the time of capture.  Here are two examples; one in color using my standard workflow to process an image in color, the other processed in monotone in Photoshop CS 6.

Death Valley National Park offers opportunities to capture images to process in black and white.

To me the drama and effect I get with the monotone has a greater impact.  The polarization of this image with it shot at almost 90 degrees to the sun, allowed for maximum polarization, which was what I wanted knowing that I thought it would make a very good black and white image.  Anyway always consider this at the time of capture as the better image may be a monotone.  Death Valley National Park offers many opportunities to capture images to process in black and white.
